So you just heard about Taxly — maybe a colleague mentioned it, or you saw it shared in a group chat, or you're simply tired of the stress that comes with filing taxes in Nigeria. Either way, welcome. This guide takes you from zero to your first filed tax return in under 30 minutes. No prior tax knowledge required.
We'll walk through everything: creating your account, verifying your email, setting up your profile, connecting your NRS Rev360 credentials, subscribing to a plan, and submitting your first return. By the time you finish reading, you'll know exactly where everything lives and how the whole system works.
Who is this guide for? Anyone who just signed up (or is about to sign up) for Taxly. Whether you're an individual filing personal income tax, a business owner handling VAT and CIT, or someone who just needs their Tax Clearance Certificate — this is your starting point.
What You'll Need Before Starting
Before you begin, make sure you have the following handy. You don't need all of these right away — some can be added later from your profile — but having them ready makes the process smoother.
- An email address — you'll use this to sign in and receive filing updates
- A phone number — Nigerian format (+234...)
- A password — at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a number, and a special character
- Your TIN / Tax ID — optional at signup, but you'll need it before filing (can add later from your profile)
- Your NRS Rev360 username and password — optional at signup, can be added later from your profile settings
Tip: If you don't have Rev360 credentials yet, don't worry. You can still create your Taxly account, explore the dashboard, and set up your profile. You'll just need Rev360 credentials before Taxly can submit filings to NRS on your behalf.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Head to taxlytech.com/auth/ — this is the signup page. You'll see a clean form asking for your details. Here's what to enter:
- Full name — your legal name as it appears on official documents
- Email address — the email you'll use to sign in (make sure you have access to the inbox)
- Phone number — must be in Nigerian format, starting with +234
- TIN / Tax ID — this is optional at signup. If you have it, enter it now. If not, you can add it later from your profile
- Password — must be at least 8 characters and include an uppercase letter, a number, and a special character
- Confirm password — type your password again to make sure it matches
Below the form fields, you'll see a checkbox: "I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy." Tick this box — it's required.
When everything is filled in, click "Create account".
Common issue: If you see an error about your phone number, make sure it's in the correct format. The field expects Nigerian numbers starting with +234 followed by your 10-digit number (e.g., +234 801 234 5678). Don't include a leading zero after the country code.
Step 2: Verify Your Email
After clicking "Create account," you'll land on a verification screen. Taxly has sent a 6-digit verification code to the email address you just provided.
Here's what to do:
- Open your email inbox and find the message from Taxly
- Copy the 6-digit code
- Enter it in the verification fields on screen
- Click "Verify email"
If you don't see the email:
- Check your spam or junk folder — email verification codes end up there sometimes
- Wait a minute or two — delivery can occasionally be delayed
- Click "Resend code" on the verification screen to get a fresh code
Once verified, you'll be redirected to sign in with your new credentials. Your account is now live.
Step 3: Choose a Plan (Optional at This Stage)
After email verification, you'll see a plan selection screen with three options:
| Plan | Price (Annual) | Who It's For |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | ₦35,000 | Personal income and withholding tax filing |
| Business | ₦90,000 | VAT, WHT, PAYE, and annual tax assessment |
| Corporate | ₦300,000 | Full compliance suite including CIT and audited statements |
You have two choices here:
- Subscribe now — pick a plan, pay, and you're ready to file immediately
- "Skip for now — Sign in" — takes you straight to the dashboard without paying. You can subscribe later from the Subscription page
There's no pressure to subscribe immediately. You can explore the dashboard, complete your profile, and get familiar with the interface before committing to a plan.
Step 4: Sign In and Explore Your Dashboard
After signing in, you'll land on your dashboard — the central hub for everything you do on Taxly. Here's what you'll see in the left sidebar:
- Dashboard — an overview of your filing activity, recent submissions, and quick actions
- File a Tax Return — where you go to start a new filing (PIT, CIT, VAT, or WHT)
- My Filings — track all your submitted filings and their current status
- My Documents — view uploaded documents and received NRS Document IDs
- Audited Statements — request professionally audited financial statements
- Subscription — view your current plan or upgrade/downgrade
- Profile & Settings — update your personal details, tax identity, and notification preferences
Take a minute to click around. The interface is straightforward — everything is where you'd expect it to be. But before you file anything, there's one important step: completing your profile.
Step 5: Complete Your Profile
Click "Profile & Settings" in the sidebar. This is where you configure everything Taxly needs to file returns on your behalf. The page is organized into five cards, each handling a different aspect of your account.
Card 1: Personal Information
Here you'll see and manage your basic details:
- Full name — editable. Make sure it matches your official documents
- Phone — editable. Update if your number changes
- Email — read-only. This was set at signup and cannot be changed
- Filer type — editable. Choose "Individual" or "Business" depending on your situation
Card 2: Tax Identity
This is critical — pay close attention:
- TIN / Tax ID — can only be set ONCE. Once you enter and save your TIN, it's locked permanently. Double-check before saving
- Account status — shows whether your account is active
- Subscription tier — displays your current plan (Free, Individual, Business, or Corporate)
Important: Your TIN cannot be changed after it's saved. If you enter the wrong TIN, you'll need to contact Taxly support to resolve it. Take a moment to verify the number before clicking save.
Card 3: NRS Rev360 Login
This is where you connect Taxly to the Nigeria Revenue Service. You'll see:
- Rev360 username — locked after first save, so enter it correctly
- Rev360 password — can be updated anytime if you change your Rev360 password
There's an info box explaining: "These are your NRS Rev360 portal login credentials. Taxly uses them to file tax returns and apply for your Tax Clearance Certificate on your behalf."
Good to know: If you previously had a TaxProMax account, the same credentials work on Rev360. NRS migrated all TaxProMax accounts to the new Rev360 platform, so your existing login details should still work.
If you don't have Rev360 credentials yet, you have two options:
- Contact Taxly support — we can help you get set up
- Register directly at rev360.nrs.gov.ng
Card 4: Notification Preferences
Control what emails and alerts you receive. Each can be toggled on or off:
- Filing deadline reminders — get notified before upcoming deadlines
- Filing status updates — know when your filing status changes (Submitted → Processing → Completed)
- Subscription renewal reminders — heads up before your plan renews
- Product updates — new features and improvements to Taxly
We recommend keeping at least "Filing deadline reminders" and "Filing status updates" turned on. These keep you informed without being noisy.
Card 5: Security
Manage your account security:
- Change password — update your password anytime
- Enable two-factor authentication — coming soon. We'll notify you when this feature is available
- Delete account — if you ever need to close your account, contact support
Tip: Complete your profile fully before attempting your first filing. Many form fields auto-fill from your profile data — your name, phone, email, TIN, and state all carry over. This saves you from retyping the same information every time you file.
Step 6: Subscribe to a Plan
If you skipped the plan selection earlier, or if you're ready to upgrade, go to "Subscription" in the sidebar. Here's what you'll see:
- Three plan cards — Individual (₦35,000/yr), Business (₦90,000/yr), Corporate (₦300,000/yr)
- A billing cycle toggle — switch between Annual and Monthly pricing
- A "Get started" button on the plan you want
Click "Get started" on your chosen plan. You'll be directed to the payment gateway powered by Monnify. Payment options include:
- Card payment — Visa, Mastercard, or Verve debit/credit cards
- Bank transfer — direct transfer to a generated account number
- USSD — complete payment via your bank's USSD code
Once payment is confirmed, your plan activates immediately. You'll see the updated tier on your dashboard and in your Profile & Settings page. No waiting period — you can start filing right away.
Step 7: File Your First Return
This is the moment everything has been building towards. Click "File a Tax Return" in the sidebar. Here's the process:
- Select your tax type — you'll see cards for PIT (Personal Income Tax), CIT (Company Income Tax), VAT (Value Added Tax), and WHT (Withholding Tax). Which types are available depends on your subscription plan
- Fill out the form sections — each tax type has its own form broken into collapsible sections. Personal details, income information, deductions, document uploads, and declaration. Each section is explained clearly within the form
- Upload supporting documents — payslips, employment letters, bank statements, or invoices depending on the tax type. All uploads accept PDF format
- Tick the declaration checkbox — confirming the information is true and authorizing Taxly to file on your behalf
- Click "Submit Filing for Processing" — your return enters the review queue
After submission, track your filing status in "My Filings". You'll see it progress through: Submitted → Processing → Filed → Completed.
Tip: If you're an individual filing for the first time, start with PIT (Personal Income Tax). It's the most common filing type and the simplest form to complete. We have a dedicated guide for it: How to File PIT on Taxly.
What Happens After Your First Filing
Once you've submitted your first return, here's what to expect:
- Status updates automatically — no need to call anyone or check manually. Your filing status updates in real time on your dashboard
- You receive your NRS Document ID via email — this is your official proof of filing, typically delivered within 24 to 48 hours
- The document appears in "My Documents" — all your filed documents and Document IDs are stored here for easy access
- Your compliance record begins — each successful filing builds your tax compliance history. This is what qualifies you for a Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) down the road
That's it. One filing complete, compliance record started, and you're on track. The entire process — from creating your account to receiving your Document ID — typically takes less than 30 minutes of your time plus 24-48 hours of processing.
Tips for New Users
Based on what we've seen from thousands of new users, here are the things that make the biggest difference:
- Complete your profile fully before filing — it auto-fills form fields and saves you time on every future filing
- Add your TIN early — it's required for every filing, and you can only set it once, so get it right
- Set up your Rev360 credentials — Taxly needs these to submit returns to NRS on your behalf. Without them, your filing can't be processed
- Start with PIT if you're an individual — it's the simplest filing type and a great way to learn how the system works
- Check "My Filings" regularly — status updates typically happen within 24-48 hours of submission
- Keep notification preferences on — deadline reminders prevent last-minute rushes, and status updates keep you informed without having to check manually
- Upload clear, legible documents — blurry scans or password-protected PDFs slow down processing. Save documents as clean PDFs before uploading
Don't forget: Your Rev360 username is locked after the first save in your profile. If you enter the wrong username, you'll need to contact support. Take an extra second to verify it before saving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to subscribe before I can explore the dashboard?
No. You can create your account, verify your email, sign in, and explore the entire dashboard without subscribing. You only need an active subscription when you're ready to file a return.
What if I don't have a TIN yet?
You can create your account and set up your profile without a TIN. However, you'll need one before you can submit any filing. If you need to register for a TIN, check out our guide: How to Register for a Tax ID (TIN) in Nigeria.
What if I don't have Rev360 credentials?
You can still sign up, explore, and set up your profile. But Taxly needs your Rev360 credentials to submit filings to NRS on your behalf. If you don't have an account yet, you can register at rev360.nrs.gov.ng or contact Taxly support for assistance.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes. Go to "Subscription" in the sidebar at any time to upgrade or change your plan. Changes take effect immediately.
What's the difference between Annual and Monthly billing?
Annual billing charges you once per year at a lower effective rate. Monthly billing charges you each month with more flexibility to cancel. Both give you the same features — it's just a payment preference.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Taxly uses bank-grade encryption for all data in transit and at rest. Your Rev360 credentials are stored securely and used only to submit filings on your behalf. See our Security page for details.
